Superman

So, according to Newsarama, Geoff Johns is retelling Superman’s origin story. I’m not very happy about this for a few reasons.
1. Johns has, of late, started sounding rather full of himself. I’m more than a little concerned that this will translate into the ‘Secret Origin’. But I ought to read his GL origin series before getting too upset about that. The man DID do a mean run on The Flash
2. I’ve been reading comics for over 30 years. I’ve seen Superman’s origin go under two major overhauls. One was the Byrne reboot right after the original Crisis. The second was Birthright. I love Birthright. I think that it completely captures the character, inside and out. I also think it sets up his relationship with Luthor very well, too. It is unlikely that Johns will do the same. Especially since the push seems to be to bring things in line with the Donner films. Honestly, I wish people would let those go. Jeez, they were good but lets move on, ok?
3. When I was a kid, I was a continuity buff. Loved running through the various histories of all the earths and such. I don’t care that much now, and it only becomes an issue with the big gaffs. But, see, it looks like Johns is going to bring back Superboy (though I suspect he will only be active in the Legion era). That brings up a whole new set of problems. Once you establish that Superboy is back in continuity, sooner or later someone will start a full series of Superboy stories. That is going to become a VERY annoying thing, continuity-wise. There is simply no way they’ll end up feeling like an actual part of the character’s history AND not end up stepping on toes.

Anyhow, just my two cents.
