Health Insurance and privacy

My company is taking bids for new health insurance providers. To facilitate this, one of the bidders is requesting detailed information about each employee. Basically, I’m filling out the form I’d be filling out if I were signing up.
This is a whopping great pain in the ass for a number of reasons, but I understand it has to be done.
What I am NOT ok with is that it isn’t anonymous. Why should this provider know my name and SSN? I’m not using them. This is, IMHO, privileged information.
But what can I do?

  1. Don’t do it!! I wouldn’t give anyone my SSN that does not need it. I think asking for that sort of information is unrealistic.
