You’re doing WHAT????

Second Amazingly Horrible Comics Decision This Year

He’s so fast, he can even outrun death: Barry Allen, aka The Flash, is speeding back to life 23 years after being killed off.

Grant Morrison, who along with Geoff Johns is responsible for resurrecting The Flash in the last panel of “DC Universe #0,” said comic book characters don’t have to stay dead.

And thats obviously true.  I could write about how bringing back such a significant character really just destroys the story of his death and really detracts, again, from the drama that comics are capable of producing and so forth.

However, I think the best response to this is:

NONONONONONONONONO!!!!!
FUCKYOUFUCKYOUFUCKYOUFUCKYOUFUCKYOUFUCKYOU!!!!!
NONONONONONONONONO!!!!!
FUCKYOUFUCKYOUFUCKYOUFUCKYOUFUCKYOUFUCKYOU!!!!!

The ISB

As you may have guessed, I love Chris’ blog

But Blair Butler’s review is just sad. I don’t know what the rest of her bit was, but from this snippet, I have to say that whoever writes these things has got to go. Reading this clip is like hearing a commercial use the term ‘wacky’. You just can’t think of any way it could be good:

“Chris works at a comic book shop so he reviews all the latest releases, but the real awesomeness lies in his ability to find obscure or forgotten comic books and write hilariously sarcastic reviews that make fun of them. They deserve it!”

Helen Keller Can Kick Your Ass!

Chris is right. The awesomitude of this book may be off the scale

Chris’s Invincible Super-Blog

P.214 - Helen Killer #2: And while we’re on the subject of the most awesome things ever, the ISB’s favorite unreleased comic is back for a second issue, and while there’s no new information in the solicitation, there is a new tidbit that’s come to light through other channels.Over on the book’s MySpace page, the creators have taken note of my wholehearted endorsement of their premise (as well as reposting some of the funny comments that got left about it last month). What really caught my eye about this, though, was the fact that for the background, they’re using a shot of Helen in her underwear, wearing Matt Murdock’s glasses and holding a quarterstaff like a miracle-working ninja:

Michael Cera is…SCOTT PILGRIM!

I’ve only read the first two volumes of this comic but it is a lot of fun. A nice mix of humor, randomness, action, love, and anime fights! I’m not sure how it will translate to the screen, but I think it’ll do well. My suggestion is to make it very over the top, visually. Or, at least, the action sequences. Like Speed Racer, there’s no real need to even consider the laws of physics, so why not run hog wild?
I’m a little worried given Wright’s low budget history. Don’t get me wrong, I think he’s a great director, but I’m a little worried that this will have the tech level of Shaun Of The Dead, and that is absolutely the wrong way to go with this.
I’m sort of stumbling around the issue here.
For those of you not in the know, Scott Pilgrim is a classic slacker, skater, in a band and all that. He then meets the girl of his dreams, and she’s FAR cooler than he could ever be.
The catch?
Scott has to do battle with her ex-boyfriends.
Anime type battle.
Beams of energy and insane aerial maneuvers type battle.

I know I’d want to see the fight sequences over-the-top, but the rest of the movie…I dunno. I think I’d like something Sin City-like. Not all dark and such, but that kind of realer-than-real feel, y’know?

Batman: The Early Years

I would kill for these.
Especially the last issue.

Iron Man!

I love the two new Iron Man posters. Why?
The problem with some comic characters is that the two identities seem, more or less, like the same person. This often changes over time (Batman becomes darker and darker, Bruce Wayne becomes more vapid) as comics mature, but much of the time it doesn’t. Mask or no-mask, its the same person. Even the brilliance of the Spider-man movies didn’t quite work this for me. That may be because, in my mind, why would you EVER go back to being Parker?
But look at these images. Look at Stark and then at the imposing, but separate, inhuman presence of Iron Man. Just like the Christopher Nolan/Christian Bale Batman, the alter-ego is a force unto itself, existing almost on its own.
What might be interesting to see in Iron Man would be this splitting of the two identities. I’m anxious to see Stark grow into Iron Man, and then have Iron Man grow apart from Stark. The two lives may simply not integrate very well, all things considered.
