So, I was thinking. Who should sing the next Bond song. Maybe…maybe…maybe a doped up drunk who spends most of her time teetering on the line between rehab and jail who regularly gets into well-publicized fights, blows off concert dates, and wanders down the street barely coherant.
And I said to myself: Yes, thats who we need.

The fact is that Madonna was one of the most significant artists of the 80s and 90s. There is no significant distinction between ‘pop’ and ‘rock’. Finally, if Mr. Morse only wants people inducted who’s music was played on rock stations, then he’s kicking out Bonnie Raitt (and she’s no more ‘rock’ than Madonna), James Taylor and Miles Davis.
I’m not saying that Deep Purple and others aren’t more worthy, only that Madonna has earned it as well.
Oh and Steve? No one remembers the J. Geils Band except for Centerfold. Even fewer people care. And Peter Wolf is an ass.
(oh, and if you doubt the lack of weight the band has, here’s a tidbit from wikipedia:
“Wolf left the group in 1983 over artistic disagreements.
The band went on to record one more album of new material, You’re Gettin’ Even While I’m Gettin’ Odd, after Wolf left. He was not replaced, and Seth Justman took over most of the vocal duties. The album produced only one single — “Concealed Weapons”, a song about breasts — and was not a success. The band toured in support of the album but never again recorded anything new.
The group reunited with Wolf in 1999, subsequently breaking up when ticket sales proved extremely disappointing. Wolf continues to tour with his own backup band, and the rest of the Geils band makes occasional appearances.”)
Should Madonna be inducted to Rock and Roll Hall? - CNN.com
Yet “if you think of rock ‘n’ roll, Madonna is not the first name that comes to mind,” said Steve Morse, longtime Boston Globe music critic who was a member of the hall of fame’s nominating committee for seven years. He considers her selection, particularly in her first year of eligibility, an embarrassment.
Her music was never played on rock ‘n’ roll radio, he said. Some veteran rock artists like Deep Purple, the J. Geils Band, Steve Miller and Alice Cooper are still waiting for induction. Morse long and unsuccessfully argued on behalf of the late Gram Parsons.
